Good Government Is A Team Effort

During Alan Perry’s term as Mayor, Town Council, professional staff, community partners and residents have worked together to move Hilton Head Island forward. Alan is proud to have helped lead that work, building strategies, asking questions and keeping the focus on responsible results.

  • No property-tax increase in the FY2024 and FY2025 budgets, followed by a property-tax-rate decrease in FY2026. By 2025, the Town had achieved AAA ratings from Standard & Poor’s, Moody’s and Fitch.

  • The Town continued acquiring land for preservation, parks, public uses and strategic community needs, including nearly 26 acres acquired in 2023 and significant additional acquisitions in 2024 and 2025 to bring the total over 85 acres.. Environmental protections were also strengthened, including tree protections and open-space requirements.

  • Stormwater infrastructure has been repaired and improved across the Island, while the Town moved forward with major beach renourishment. In 2025, a $47.8 million contract was awarded for renourishment at five locations.

  • The Town created a dedicated housing fund, advanced the Northpoint public-private partnership, hired its first Chief Housing Officer, adopted housing-related policy changes and moved Northpoint into its development phase.

  • Work has included the adaptive traffic signal system, pedestrian and cyclist safety improvements, pathway repairs and additions, park improvements, reduced speed limits in targeted areas and improvements throughout public spaces across the Island.

  • The Town launched new dashboards, online tools, Council action summaries, agenda notifications, newsletters, annual reports and community information resources while significantly expanding digital communications and public engagement.
